Carnavaldelnorte boosts the future of “murgas” with new training workshops in Santoña.

The Carnavaldelnorte association, through its collaborator Iván Expósito, has launched an ambitious training initiative aimed at strengthening, promoting, and securing the future of “murgas” within the Santoña Carnival. This project is supported by the Santoña Town Council, which has provided venues and materials, as well as by the direct involvement of experienced murga members, whose knowledge and commitment are key to delivering the workshops.

The project takes shape through a series of four specialized workshops — Singing, Lyrics, Percussion, and Guitar — designed to develop the core pillars of a murga from the ground up, combining technical training with creative development.

Comprehensive training for all ages

The workshops are open to participants of all ages (with some specific requirements depending on the discipline) and are aimed at both beginners and those already involved in carnival groups who want to improve their skills.

The program will begin with initial sessions at the Youth Center (Casa de la Juventud), where groups will be organized and schedules set in coordination with participants. The training will run across several sessions before the summer holidays, with the possibility of resuming in October, ahead of the carnival rehearsal season.
