The Santoña Town Hall, through a publication in the Official Bulletin of Cantabria, announces the contest for selecting the Poster for the Santoña Carnival 2025.
REGULATORY BASES FOR THE POSTER SELECTION CONTEST FOR THE SANTOÑA CARNIVAL
FIRST: Organizing Entity
Hon. Santoña Town Hall, Department of Festivities.
SECOND: Purpose
The purpose of this contest is the selection of the official poster for the Santoña Carnival 2025. The design must be original, unpublished, and meet the following conditions:
The poster's theme is free, but it must serve as a tourist attraction for the town, clearly inspired by the Santoña Carnival and capturing its spirit. Including a characteristic element of the town and considering the poster as a final graphic work will be valued positively. Other evaluation criteria include attention-grabbing, visibility, interest, and creating a desire to attend the Santoña Carnival 2025. Works that promote values like democracy, freedom, coexistence, and solidarity will be highly regarded. Any works contrary to the Spanish Constitution will be rejected according to current legislation.
THIRD: Type of Contest and Procedure
The contest is open to individuals over 18 years of age before the start of the registration period.
The work must not contain copies or plagiarism of other artists' works. In the context of these Rules, plagiarism is defined as the substantial copying of someone else’s work as one’s own, or copying fragments or ideas of an original work with identifiable similarity, whether or not it is subject to copyright.
If a work is found to be a plagiarism during jury selection or voting, it will be excluded from the contest.
The poster must be unpublished and cannot have been presented in any other contest or selected as an image for any other poster. The theme is open but should include one or more maritime carnival motifs.
FOURTH: To prevent interference with institutional information (logos, etc.), the poster should have a 10 cm space at the bottom in a solid color (matching the work), free of any elements (no brush strokes or compositional elements).
Works that do not include this reserved space for the banner will be disqualified.
The original posters should be presented in a vertical format with dimensions of 50 x 70 cm (including the 10 cm for the banner).
The Town Hall reserves the right to determine the content of the 10 cm banner on the winning poster.
FIFTH: The text that should appear prominently on the poster includes: "Santoña," "Carnival," "2025," and the event dates "February 14 to March 15, 2025," in the order chosen by the author. Additionally, the text "Festival of Tourist Interest" should appear as secondary text.
SIXTH: The poster's creation technique is up to the artist, as long as it allows for full-size reproduction via offset printing.
Three-dimensional works are excluded, as they are incompatible with two-dimensional printing.
SEVENTH: The use of artificial intelligence tools is not permitted in the poster's creation. Any poster found to have been created wholly or partly with AI will be automatically disqualified.
EIGHTH: Entries must be submitted within TWENTY (20) calendar days from the publication date in the Official Bulletin of Cantabria. Each contestant may submit a maximum of 2 posters.
NINTH: Works selected by the Jury will become the property of the Santoña Town Hall, which reserves all rights over them. Should any third party claim partial or total rights over a poster presented in the contest, the Santoña Town Hall will be exempt from all liability.
TENTH: The prize for the winner is 1,000 euros (subject to applicable withholdings).
ELEVENTH: The Santoña Town Hall's Department of Festivities will appoint a jury composed of members of the Festival Commission and additional individuals freely chosen by the Commission President. The jury will first select the three most voted posters within five days of the end of the submission period.
Subsequently, the public may visit the Tourist Office on Calle Santander to vote for the winning poster among these three finalists. Voting will be open for the five business days following the jury's initial selection, with only one vote allowed per person. The following business day, a Festival Commission meeting will take place to tally the votes and officially declare the winning poster.
The jury’s decisions are final. The Secretary will record the meeting minutes and decisions.
TWELFTH: Posters must be submitted by hand or by mail to the Santoña Town Hall's Registry at: Santoña Town Hall, Attn: Municipal Registry (Poster Contest for Carnival 2025).
Posters must be unsigned and preferably mounted on a rigid surface (foam board). The author's personal information (name, address, phone number, email, and a description of the poster) should be included in a separate sealed envelope attached to the back of the poster. Both the poster and envelope must be securely wrapped.
THIRTEENTH: Authors must not reveal their authorship of the posters by any means (analog, digital, or social media). If this rule is violated, the work will be automatically disqualified upon investigation by the Department of Festivities.
FOURTEENTH: Authors of the three posters selected by the jury must provide a JPG file of their work within two days of selection, at 300 dpi resolution, in CMYK color mode, and full-size. If the poster was submitted physically, only the winning author needs to provide a digital file suitable for offset printing.
FIFTEENTH: By participating, contestants grant the Santoña Town Hall permission to use their name and images of their posters for communications and contest exhibitions, as well as for advertising purposes on the town's website and social media.
SIXTEENTH: Personal Data Protection: In accordance with Organic Law 15/1999 of December 13 on Personal Data Protection, the personal data provided by participants will only be used for the intended purpose and will not be added to any commercial database.
SEVENTEENTH: Participation implies acceptance of these contest rules and the Jury’s decision. The Department of Festivities will resolve any incidents related to the application of these rules.
